Georgia's National Identity

 National identity refers to the many defying features of a nation. It bridges factors like religion, language, culture, history, and territory to create a sense of belonging for its citizens. However, national identity only exists in comparison to other nations. Now what I mean by this is that the features that are found common in a nation are the same ones that differentiate it from the other nations, known as significant others. Significant others are other nations or ethnic groups that are territorially close or within a nation and pose a threat to the nation’s culture and/or independence (Triandafyllidou, 1998,p.600). The recognition of significant others allows for a nation to be self-aware of the ingroup, us, and the outgroup, them. Gamarjoba!

In Georgian, Gamarjoba is a greeting that means hello so, ga marjoba and Welcome to this blog about Georgia's involvement in the Eurovision Song Contest!   Georgia is located in Eastern Europe, directly south of Russia and north of Turkey. It also borders parts of the Black Sea. Georgia first joined Eurovision in 2007 and has participated 13 times since then. Their most recent appearance was in 2021 with contestant Tornike Kipiani performing the song You. I chose this country because I have never heard of it before, and am excited to learn more about it.
